"You’ll Become Irrelevant." What a great observation, Chris. Our friends and family really can't relate to, and fundamentally don't care about, our day to day life overseas. After a South Pacific cruise last year we invited our Costa Rica neighbors over for a slide show and even I felt my eyes glazing over! Real engagement comes when we talk to people who have traveled to the same places. Swapping stories and comparing notes is a fun shared experience, exposition really is not.

That said, our homebound acquaintances appreciate the concept of us as relatively unburdened citizens of the world. They want to know how we make it work and, more importantly, whether it is a fulfilling way to live.

I would also suggest that people prepare to change and be changed. My wife and I know we are evolving through this nomadic journey over the past 5 years. We are constantly learning and experimenting. As an example we are both detailed planners and thought we would have at least 6 months completely booked as we rolled forward. Today we only have confirmed places to stay out at most a couple months and are learning that flexibility adds to the experiences we want to have. It also allows us to meet up with other people who don't plan on a similar timeline. We have no regrets about our lifestyle and are looking forward to the adventures that are coming!
