We started full-time travelling in Sept 2024 and are still testing what works best for us. Early on, we did one month in Saint Raphael and one month in Malaga, but found it was too short. So while we were in Bonaire, we changed our initial one month into 2 months. Then we found that the place you stay is ultra important (we had to switch condos for the 2nd month). Now we are finding that 2- 2.5 months is our sweet spot if all conditions (condo, weather, city) make us happy. It’s a fun learning experience! And yes, we like staying long enough in one place to figure out the good markets, make friends with cafe owners and find our favorite places that we can repeat!
Sedona is quite magical in the winter. We passed through 5 years ago when we stayed in Prescott and Flagstaff and I thought it was too touristy and crowded. This time we arrived January 6th, and it was not crowded at all. The weather is perfect, brisk and a bit chilly in the mornings, but low to mid 60’s in the afternoons. Perfect for hiking!
We are committed already for our stay in Aegina this time around, but plan to do some short trips around to the mainland and other islands as this is our first time to Greece. I have a feeling we will be back in the future to explore more! So thank you for the offer of contact with your landlord. We will keep it in mind for future stays!
We loved Saint Raphael, Malaga, Kobe, New Zealand, and now Sedona, all places we would recommend and go back to in a heartbeat. We do go to Bonaire every year sometime between Nov-Jan (making sure we can stay at our favorite condo!) because we scuba dive and for the comfort of the familiarity of it.
But there are so many places in the world left to explore! We are planning to go to Aegina, Greece in March and plan to pop over to look at Poros since your photos look so beautiful! Have you been to Aegina? Any recs?
Those are some of my fav places too, especially Sedona. I like Poros much more than Aegina. (too tousity, too many cruises, too many commuters from Athens.) Consider Poros. I can put you in touch with my landlord!
This life is all about balancing and rebalancing. So glad you two had some time to catch your breath and find your itchy feet again! Here’s hoping our journeys overlap somewhere or another along the way this year!
In October of last year, I moved to Bordeaux, France. Mainly due to falling off the ACA cliff in 2026 and what is happening in the US. I was very concerned about living in one place after 4 years of being a nomad, although I did not travel nearly as fast as you and Steve did. But I was concerned about being in one place for long term.
I also just got back from a 1.5 months travel to 7 new countries in SE Asia, India and Nepal. I found myself looking forward to ‘going home’, which had never happened when I was a nomad. I am concerned about in one place for long periods of time, so I worked hard at building friendships and community in my first 3 months.
Now I will be focusing on learning more French until I visit the US for 2 weeks in late April. A friend from Australia will be visiting end of April-May. Then a week Mediterranean cruise in May to celebrate a friends big birthday, friends from the UK visiting for a week in June, and family for a week in July. So I’ll be busy.
I think this might work out well for me. I hope you find everything you need wherever you are. Happy travels!
You’re def figuring out what works for you Vicki. I think Poros will have a future for us, especially as a 90-month check in. I do think our biggest take away is that 120 days was simply too long.
I think we’re learning a lot about ourselves. We do love a rhythm of one month, then a few weeks of fast travel, then a month in place…and I do think we’ll build in 3 months every once in a while. Poros would be a good place for that. It was a fun experiment.

You bet. We'll be back in Poros in October.
Sounds like you've found a great rhythm! Do you have a favorite place you'll go back to or that you'd recommend?

It would be delightful to see you two.
