I groan to admit it. After over four years of full-time travel, I’m not in the shape I was when I left Denver, I weigh 5 pounds more, and my mobility has decreased.
But here’s the good news.
I’m happier, my mental health is A+, and my overall health is far better. I’ve got incredible access to medical care, my insurance is affordable, and I do a different workout almost every day. Plus, getting in 10,000 steps a day is a no brainer.
Life is really good.
Today as Steve and I were walking our three Japanese Spitzes at our housesit in Dublin (use our link at Trusted Housesitters and our code EATWALK25 to get a 25% discount), we came across a bench tucked into the corner of a park. Around it, the locals had generously planted flowers and trees as a place for reflection and relaxation. A young tree with a yellow ribbon tied around it shaded the bench, and a sign about Suicide Prevention reminded folks that help is a phone call away.
That made me smile.
It reminded me that no matter where we are in the world, we’ve been able to get incredible health care, from knee surgery in Malaysia to full health screenings in Turkey to glaucoma screenings in Argentina. We’ve never had to pay more than reasonable amounts, and often our insurance at Genki covered everything but a 50 Euro co-pay. Plus, we’ve used Better Help for mental check-ins.
If you’d like more info about how we’ve managed health care and insurance, we’ve got loads of content on both the website and on our youtube channel. Here are just a few pieces to check out:

July isn’t any particular “National Month of Mental Health, Breast Cancer, or Health” (but why not check in on those things?), but it is National Horseradish Month. So, I give you one of my favorite things that we ate in Romania on our 2-week roadtrip through Romania’s best, the Beet Horseradish Salad, a vegan favorite.
As a final note today, I released my new book! I’m so grateful to the 25 other nomads who offered their words of wisdom about how they live their dream lives as full-time nomads. Solos, seniors, men, women, couples. Everyone is in Wanderlust Wisdom: Journeys of 25 Full-Time Travelers.
Whether you want a glimpse into the lives of nomads or you want to read about one of the friends you’ve met virtually in our nomad group, this wonderful conglomeration of 25 stories highlights tips for getting out into the world as travelers.
