We send a newsletter every week to all of our subscribers; once a month we remove the paywalls so all the content is available to everyone. This is that newsletter.
In January, everyone compiles their previous year’s high and lows and focuses on the next year. For us, we’re thinking about change, not only in how we travel, but in how we share our travels.
Of course, our change affects you, and we want to make sure that any changes we make here at EatWalkLearn positively embrace your needs and wants. Last week, I sent a newsletter about my Travel ReVolutions and quizzed you about possible changes ahead.
My 2026 Travel Resolutions
After five years of full-time travel, our mobile muscles have strengthened every time we have moved. Efficiently we have zipped through security, knowing that the nose scissors must be out to avoid an extra search. Computers automatically plunk into trays despite a new requirement to keep them stashed. Our same travel outfits guarantee comfy and reliabl…
Survey Says!
We got lots of input from y’all. Right now I send four newsletters a month, of which one doesn’t have a paywall and three do. What is absolutely clear; you love the free newsletter. You also like the once a week frequency, but only 2% of you are willing to pay to go behind the paywall where my best content exists. I hate this inequity and want more people to read more of my work.
I Like Herbal Tea, Actually
Interestingly, lots of you would be willing to buy me a coffee, but most of you aren’t interested in paying at all for the additional content (“Donate as you see fit” is a euphemism for “not paying”.) I should have asked this question differently, especially since I think you would buy Tutorials, Guides or Courses, but I understand you won’t buy Tips and Tricks. (Thank you for buying my best-selling books time and time again.)
A Book Club Awaits
Finally, the third humdinger from my poll was about a Travel Writing book club. Two-thirds of you, which is no surprise since you are Substackers, would love to be in a book club led through Chat. I have no idea how to do that, but I’d love for anyone to send me a chat with ideas about how to implement this crazy thought.
Our 2026 Itinerary
So while I digest how to deliver what you are asking for, we’re focusing on our travel for next year. Once again, we’ve got some goals. We’ll
take seperate vacations,
cruise the Panama Canal,
volunteer at FIFA World Cup,
helicopter over a volcano,
see all of our family members,
bike the Dutch tulip season,
enjoy Oktoberfest,
hike across a country, and honestly,
sit still again through the winter.
Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Youtube to see our travels and hear our tips.

I finally found a book that might hit on all of the things I love about learning. Geography, maps, history and story telling combine in this wonderful book about the world’s borders. Why is Europe a bunch of odd shapes? How’d the Canada-US border get drawn? Why is Rome in the center of Italy? I adored this book and learned so much about cartography and history while enjoying a bit of storytelling about leaders and their whims. Grab a copy of A Brief History of the World in 47 Borders.

P.S. We’ve put out a couple of videos you might find interesting.

Hi Chris - is your planned Travel Writing Book Club for people who want to read books about travel writing together in a club, or for people who want to or are writing books about travel?
It was fun to see you today on the Ask a Nomad call.
