Ireland—Off the Beaten Path and a Hike Away
For at least four years, we’ve been coming to Ireland. It’s not only a great place to dance the Schengen Shuffle and a perfect place for 72 degrees in August, but nooks and crannies exist all over the country just waiting for discovery.
From Dublin to Galway, Connemara to Cork, good food, great hikes, fabulous people, and amazing countrysides await nomads on adventures.
The Secret to Accommodations in Dublin and Beyond
And yup, no matter how you slice it, Ireland can be expensive. Groceries, fortunately, are reasonable, but housing, gulp, can be quite a challenge. We almost always grab a housesit (use our link for Trusted Housesitters) because they’re plentiful, comfortable, and available. Or latest housesit has us taking beach walks every morning in Shankill with three lovely Japanese Spitzes (and it saved us over $4000 in accommodation expenses plus it came with a car.)

Hiking in Ireland
We’ve found incredible hikes all over Ireland. From the Celtic Camino’s nine choices all over the country (we love the Bray Camino), to the Wicklow Way, jaunts along the Wild Atlantic Way, and even a meander on the Aran Islands, Ireland is a hiker’s dream come true. Just be sure to bring your weather gear. A bright sunny day can become a drenching in a few short minutes.
Secret Spots in Dublin
Anyone can read blog posts about Temple Bar in Dublin, the Ha’penny Bridge and Grafton Street, but what about learning the backstory of being blackballed? or finding out about the first president born in Israel who was Irish? or seeing Victorian blown glass of single-cell amoebas? You’ll find all of this info and more in the resources below.
Irish Resources
We’ve written volumes about things to do in Ireland and even recorded a few videos. Here’s a handy reference for those pieces.

Nomad Treats
Each month, we recommend two things from our packing list.
I love my Fahlo bracelets. They track my turtle and my shark, and I can see where they are in the world. Currently my shark, Lemon, is off the coast of Florida. My turtle, Gloria, is off the Bahamas! Proceeds from the bracelets go to wildlife conservation. Get your bracelet here. (Use my code, EatWalkLearn.)
I admit…sometimes my tweezers become a screwdriver, a wrench, a pair of pliers. They’re also good on, gag, chin hairs. :-)

Let Me Get to Know You
Book of the Month
Who doesn’t love a good book? Each month I confess what I’m reading.
Let’s just say that reading a book to teach me how to do nothing might have been the hardest read I’ve ever had to do. I’m not good at sitting still. I am good at relaxing, but only in small bits. For those of you who have people in your life who have a tough time “being unproductive” this book by Jenny Odell might be what they need to read.
P.S. Enjoy this video of amazing dogs at the National Sheepdog Trials in Ireland.

Schengen shuffle ! Yep. Saving this one for that.
Love the Aran Islands, the sheepdog video, and all things Irish! (I mean my name *is* Erin after all!) 🍀
